Family Time in the Poconos

We had a fun weekend @ Split Rock Resort & Water Park in Pennsylvania. Great water slides, wave pool, boogie board wave pool, kiddie area & snack bar.

We all had a blast!

The view from our condo.

We stayed at the new Willowbrook Condos @ Split Rock. Each suite had a fireplace, Jacuzzi and full kitchen.

In the summer they also offer boating, mini golf, tennis, golf and more.

Big Boulder Lake

The Big Boulder ski resort is just down the road. The grand kids had ski lessons. The teachers were friendly and did an excellent job teaching the fundamentals of skiing. Jack Frost is owned by the same company & is not far away. They offer night skiing. I was so glad it worked out to get away with our family for a little R & R during this snowy winter.

The City in Winter

Ice Skating in Central Park

We recently had a great trip to the Big Apple, New York City. The views from the Helmsley Park Lane of Central Park were magnificent. This trip we took the Upper Loop Double Decker Bus Tour. Last time we took the Lower Loop and walked across the Brooklyn Bridge. We learned a lot of interesting things about Manhattan.

Manhattan was named 'Manna Hatta' by the Lenape Indians meaning, Island of hills. It is made up of 5 boroughs, Queens, Staten Island, the Bronx, Brooklyn, & Manhattan. Central Park opened in 1858. The Subway opened in 1904 and made way for the development of northern Manhattan.

Manhattan is loosely divided into Downtown, Midtown, Uptown with Fifth Ave dividing east and west. Manhattan is 12 ½ miles by 2 ½ miles.

In Manhattan, uptown means north and downtown means south. Manhattan has two central business districts, the Financial District at the southern tip and Midtown. Uptown also refers to the northern part of Manhattan above 59th St. Downtown below 14th and Midtown in between.
