A 60 foot finback whale is disposed of on Ocean City, NJ beach. The whale had to be sliced into chunks that were transported by a front end loader and buried at the north end of the island.
A necropsy revealed multiple broken bones, suggesting the whale was struck by a ship according to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center.

It's so sad that the poor whale may have been hit by a boat. The science teacher in me sure would have loved to have seen it before it was cut up for disposal.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is so sad. They say it was a big ship in the shipping lanes near New York. It was so huge. Not sure the pictures do it justice.
